Epson Stylus Photo RX420
Hi, I am new around here and am looking for bit of help after being recommended this site.
I have had the above printer for some years now and i am encountering my first problem. When I upload photos from my memory card, I usually use the SD Card slot on the printer. When I insert it, it usuall opens automaticaly giving me various options of what to do to upload them. This has now stopped and when I insert the card, nothing happens. I have gone to the epson site and updated the drives and also tried to reinstall the relevant software from the disk provided with the printer but this has not made any difference. If anyone can point me in the right direction to resolve this problem, that would be great. Many thanks in advance. ![]()

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
Sorry for asking but you can confirm that the card can still be used with your camera to view/take pictures? Have you tried a different card reader?
When a printer has a memory card reader, windows device manager will usually see two different device: 1. printer 2. card reader The card reader should be detected by windows and a generic drive should appear in ''My Computer'' If it doesn't see it please check the following: If you go to device manager (right click on computer, properties, hardware, device manager) do you see the two distinct devices? If you see them, any of them has a question or exclamation mark? If there is an exclamation mark there is a conflict, right click uninstall, unplug USB, reboot computer, plug USB back and cross your finger for a successfull plug and play. If there is a question mark, there is no drivers assigned to the device (for some reason they were uininstalled?) so right click and select update drivers, again cross your fingers.

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
Dont be sorry for asking questions !! I appreciate your help and quick response.
I can confirm that the memory card is still fine for taking and viewing pictures with the camera. I have tried the SD reader on the computer base unit but it is unresponsive as well Within my computer, i can see the following... Kodak (E:) within devices and removable storage. I also have Epson Stylus Photo RX420 within Scanners and cameras. Within device manager I can see no sign of card reader or printer. I am just wondering if there is a conflict with the kodac software. This came with the camera I am using and installed it but decided not to use it so tried to remove it from add / remove programs. This obviously hasnt happened properly if it is still showing in my computer. Also, I dont know if this is relevant or not, but even when I insert any sort of disk into the drive on the computer it doesnt auto run like it used to. Could this be part of the problem ? Thanks again for your help |

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
From my limited knowledge, autorun and plug and play are not linked in any way.
What bugs me is that your devices are not showing anywhere in device manager.. Are you still able to print and scan with this device?

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
OK, a wee update. In between posts, i decided to uninstall and reinstall all the epson software from the provided disk. When i go to device manager there is still no sign of the 2 entries you mentioned earlier but there is an entry for EpsonStylus.... with a question mark beside it. I have right clicked and chosen the option to update drivers but get the following message
the file"E_DDSP13.DLL" ON EPSON STYLUS PHOTO RX 420 SERIES IS NEEDED Then i get the option to browse and find the file but would not have a clue where to look. Anyone any clues ??? |

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
I have googled the name of this file and it does relate to your epson printer. It is downloadable from what I can see, so a possible solution would be to download this file to your desktop and select it when you install the drivers.
Let me know what happens next!

Re: Epson Stylus Photo RX420
Hello,
Did you get the latest driver to install?, go here: http://www.epson.com/cgi-bin/Store/s...oType=Overview 1. Unplug all cables to printer except for power cord. 2. uninstall software and driver from the add/remove 3. reboot pc 4. Install the driver you downloaded 5. connect the USB cord when told to by the installation 6. After complete installation 7. reboot pc Note: Looks like you just got a bad install, if there wwere copy errors.
