xerox Phaser 8550 random printing on vista.

Hi.

Using a Xerox phaser 8550 DP colour laser printer.

Vista premium 32 bit 3gb or ram.

The printer is new and has about 500 pages on it, it has been rebuilt (circuits) three times already. Including the required firmware updates.

The problem is the following.

At first power up of the computer and the printer one can print a test page, or a web site form either MSIE or firefox.

You can print a photo from firefox, or photoshop. However you can not print a photos from Colreldraw graphics suite.

If you then load another photo into photoshop and print the print will stall and you will get two pages printed one with about 1/4" of the photo and the second sheet is an error report even if you didn't ask for one.

Same errors after that with firefox, MSIE, any printing software, except the windows test page.

Canceling the print que is very difficult and takes several minutes of task manager printer que shutdowns a restarts to clear the print task (including pressing the cancel button on the printers a few dozen times..

The errors are as follows.

IO error (offending command) readstring (stack: xxxxyyxxwwwttt...).
or
IO error (offending command) IMAGE (stack: dictionary).
or
IO error (offending command) READSTRING (stack: -filestream).

The problem is a bit odd as once the circuits are change the printer works for a few days then starts to error again.

Cold booting the printer fixes the problem. However ones the first page is printed it reverts back to the same errors.

Now i tried a Konica colour laser printer , a couple colour inkjet pritners, and a couple B/W laser printers on this computer. All the pritners worked perfectly except for the Phaser 8550.

Lastly i did notice that when attempting to the install the xerox 8550 dp dirvers. Vista would refuse the install of the DP variant, and auto download/install the DN variant driver.

I formated and installed a fresh copy of vista and installed the 8550 driver once again, and once again it crashed/stalled after the first printed page.

Changed the usb cable, same result.

I didn't have have this problem on my laptop's vista (same version) at first. However it eventually stalled as well.

Based on the errors reports there is an obvious communications problem.

Either the phaser is not USB2.0 compatible or it's processor is truly messed up.

Could be a buffer overload, or the memory buffer is not 100% cleared when the second page goes through.

I did notice that the errored printouts were almost always around 91% complete sent to the phaser printer buffer. Such as 9.1MB or 9.3MB out of 10MB or 16/15, always the same ratios.

Any ideas?
