Cannot get correct driver for Dell 942

I have a Dell 942 All-In-One which I obtained used and which did not come with any software. When I first got the printer, I downloaded a driver which enables me to use the A-I-O as a printer. The driver # is 1.0.23.0 according to whatever software I do have for the printer. I would now like to use this machine to fax and scan and am not able to do so because I always get a message which states that the machine driver is not communicating with my PC, which is also a Dell. i have repeatedly tried to download and install the appropriate driver. I have tried to do so from Dell and every other site that offers a driver for this printer. Every time the installation fails due to an error which I cannot remember but it had something to do with scripting. How do I get around this? Any help will be greatly
