USB not working for printer! HELP!
When my old printer was plugged into my USB ports, along with a memory card reader and external hard drive, everything worked fine. However, once I bought a new, larger printer, it caused everything to stop working when I plugged it in to my USB ports. Without the new printer plugged in, the USB ports work fine. My question is, can I change out my USB ports to correct this or do I need to get a newer tower?
Your help is greatly appreciated! |

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. What is the Make & Model of the PC? What is the Make & Model of the printer? Are you using a USB Hub or connecting the printer directly to a USB Port? Is there any errors in the device manager? Thanks, Bill |

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
Hi,
According to you spec sheet: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...os=228&lang=en You have 4 USB 2.0 connections. Please disconnect all USB Devices. Remove the printer program in ADD/Remove Programs. HP has 4 diffent model of the L7500 series here: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Looku...x=3&submit.y=4 Please select your exact model and download the full version of the software. Run the software and connect the USB Cable when promted directly to a USB connection. Let me know if the printer will install properly at this point before attaching the rest of your USB Devices. Also, are you using an Ipod on this machine? Thanks, Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 05-14-2008 at 08:57 AM. |

Thanks Bill, I will try this and let you know. It may take me a few minutes, but I will get back to you as soon as I find out if it will work! Also, yes sometimes I do use my ipod.

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
You may want to take a look at this update. It applies to the Ipod shuffle & USB support for USB HD w/ WIN XP:
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...os=228&lang=en This link has also many updates you may wish to consider: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...425921&lang=en Do you have XP SP2 Installed? Thanks, Bill |

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
OK Bill, this has all been done! But I get the same results! I removed the program and installed it again from the actual CD which came with the printer, so it is fully installed! When the printer is plugged in (before anything else) the printer works fine. BUT, once everything else is plugged in, NOTHING works!!! It is really weird! Then, if I unplug the printer, and everything else gets plugged in, they all work again! It appears to bog down when they are all plugged in at the same time. Printer works when its alone, nothing else works ~or~ Everything works when printer is not plugged in!!! Strange huh? BUT...they all worked before until I got this printer!

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
Don’t have the XP SP2 installed. Also, don’t have an iPod shuffle and the iPod that I do have, I’ve had for a while. The issue started when I plugged in and installed a newer, larger printer. My tower is several years old so I’m thinking that it just won’t support the new printer.

I would suggest installing XP SP2. Did you go to the site I reccommend for the printer program and download the newer version of the program? Is the printer connected directly to the USB port (not the hub)? What is the make and model of the USB Hub you are using for the other usb devices. Your tower should support this printer. Thanks, Bill Last edited by BCCOMP; 05-14-2008 at 12:38 PM. |

Re: USB not working for printer! HELP!
Hi,
How many USB devices do you have? What is the make and model of the USB Hub you are using? For now is the printer working when you connect it directly to a USB Port (with no other USB devices hooked up)? If so connect the other USB devices directly to a USB port (not the hub), one at a time. You should have three remaining USB Ports, so connect each (Remaining) USB device one at a time directly to a USB Port. Test the printer to see if it still works after each device is installed. I am trying to see if it maybe something other than the printer is causing an issue. Thanks, Bill |
