Code 19 on Dell A920 All-in-One Printer
I recently changed computers and when I plugged my Dell A920 All-in-One printer into the new computer and loaded the drivers I received a message telling me:
Cannot start this hardware device because it configuration (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged (Code 19). I've run several registry cleaners (CCleaner, Norton Cleansweep, Easy Cleaner) and then tried reinstalling, always with the same result. When I've searched for solutions, all I can find is to go back to a restore point where the device worked. Well, given that it's never worked on this computer, that's not much help. Anyone have any ideas? |

My name is Jimmy I am the Peripherals Liaison for Dell. Try going into device manager, right click on the printer and then select uninstall. Then click on scan for new hardware. That should load a usable driver.

Re: Code 19 on Dell A920 All-in-One Printer
Jimmy.
Thanks for your suggestion, but I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling this printer about 2 dozen times now, using the drivers on the CD that came with the printer as well as drivers downloaded from the Dell site. Still the problem persists. Just to be fair, I tried once again, following the exact method you suggested, and again, it immediately reported that "There was an error in the installation of your hardware. Some features may not work properly." And the message was correct. I still can't scan. Any other ideas? |

Re: Code 19 on Dell A920 All-in-One Printer
You wouldn't happen to be running Vista on this new system? If so unplug the printer, down load this file http://tiny.cc/BYM4Z , extract it and run the DellCleanUpUtility. This will remove the drivers for the printer. Then download http://tiny.cc/p74Ei , this is the driver for Vista. The instructions for installing it are on the page. Then get the Vista version of the 3 in 1 software http://tiny.cc/YF6Qx . Hope this helps, my guess is the drivers on the CD are for XP.
