I have a Xerox Phaser 6110 printer which is working fine on my laptop. When I plug the USB device into the desktop (windows xp) I get a message the USB device is not recognised (regardless of where I plug it in). Xerox troubleshooter just tells me to switch off and connect it properly but this isn't the problem. It happened before with this computer and my son fixed it by visiting this forum but don't know what he did and he's away! Anyone had similar problem?

Re: Computer not recognising USB device
Thanks Dai that seems to have solved the problem
- but 5 copies into printing it ran out of yellow toner - again and without warning ! after less than 4 weeks and probably less than 500 copies... can't believe it has run out this is the third yellow this year and the other cartrdiges seem to last much longer( well a bit longer anyway). Is it me or the printer?! |

Re: Computer not recognising USB device
I suggest you to download from Internet the latest driver for your printer and update driver.
At least if that does not help you can always roll back driver. But I think it is a driver issue. P.S. Just tell me: drivers are same on both laptop and home PC?

Re: Computer not recognising USB device
i think you will find it is the way you print
i print mainly in black so i find the blue goes out a lot quicker than the others, unless i shut the colours off which is not much of anoption for me as i am not the only one printing

Re: Computer not recognising USB device
Vladimir - yes same driver on laptop and on pc. It camne with the printer which I've had less than a year, not sure if there are updates yet but will see.
Dai - when it comes to colours I am heavy on images in green shades but would've thought the cyan would have packed in at the same rate as the yellow, especially as I use black too a lot. Perhaps I am hoping for too much from a cheap printer - my previous one was an Epson aculaser, expensive cartridges but lasted best part of a year. Thanks for your advice. |

Re: Computer not recognising USB device
to get green it is a mix of yellow and blue from memory the lighter the green the more yellow consumed
unless you switch to straight black without the colours turned on black also uses blue in it's printing of black i use the cheap replacement generic cartridges on the canon only a quarter of the price
