hp problems

I am trying to install an HP Officejet Pro L7680 All-in-One on my Dell Inspiron 1720. To be frank...it's not working.

I try installing the drivers from the disk that came for Windows Vista. It gets to about 94% and the gives me a fatal error. It also shuts down my print spooler. If I try to go through the Windows "Add Printer" function, it gives me "error 0x000006be".

I got the printer installed fine on my desktop, running the same version of Windows. But, other issues caused my desktop to stop working and now I can't seem to install the printer on my laptop. Any suggestions? Thanks.

Re: hp problems

Just got some new information. The details of the fatal error are as follows:

Now Launching=X:\hpzwrp01.exe -m dpinstxml_vista -| XXX -f
X:\hpwins05.dat -Validate No dat -Validate No
= Application did not return ERROR_SUCCESS. Returned 0x643
Exit code=1603

Hope someone can help me figure this out.

Re: hp problems

I would start out by uninstalling the printer software by using the Programs and Features Add/Remove option of Control Panel. Also make sure that the printer is not present in the Printers folder. Also when running the Install software, don't plug the printer USB cable until you are prompted to do it.
