Canon MP 150 won't recognize new ink

I have a Canon Pixma MP150. i just installed two new cartridges but it doesn't recognize they are new. the printer is still telling me the cartridges are empty. how do i get it to recognize the cartridges are new and full?

Hi irchamandy and welcome to TSF

Did you buy the cartridges from Canon? Try reseating them both and making sure that you removed the sticky tape on them that stops ink from being sensed or used.

the tape is definitely off and i have reinstalled them many times. they are canon cartridges

Can you try another set of cartridges maybe? This could tell us whether it is the printer or the cartridges.
