Brother MFC 5100c bogus paper jams reported
I have a Brother MFC 5100c that I just got up and running (frozen carriage) and am having trouble with the cachine reporting paper jams on its display, even when there isn't one.
I am printing a copy of the test sheet, so there is no computer involved, as well as the scanner not being used. I set the printer for letter size, which matches the paper size. When the printout comes out and the paper clears the outlet paper freed rollers (I.E. I can pull the paper out without any trouble), the printer beeps and displays a paper jam message. The only paper sensor switch I can find in the printer portion is right after the paper supply tray. I can push a piece of paper down from the paper supply tray until it trips the paper sensor, which causes the printer to try to eject the paper from the printer. Pull it back and the printer is happy. From this test I assume that the paper sensor switch is working properly. Since I can't find a paper exit sensor, I assume this machine is using some other method to determine if there is a jam at the exit. Either that or the machine is in some weird state that might benefit from a factory reset. Anyone have an idea as to what to check next? There is always the possibility that while I had the printer apart I managed to knock something out of place, but I can't find anything looking out of place or disconnected. Thanks in advance. Peace, Pat |

Re: Brother MFC 5100c bogus paper jams reported
Hi Horne and welcome to TSF
![]() Look around inside the printer and look for a bottom sensor. It might be covered by a wire that was moved while you were inside causing the jams. I am not a pro at printer hardware so I would just recommend taking a look around inside again. |

Here is email support:
http://www.brother-usa.com/AskUs/default.aspx USA http://www.brother.ca/en/customer_ca...ne_support.asp CAN I think your description of the problem is very clear and pasting this in an email to the tech support will most likely get you a conclusive answer within about 24hrs. Believe me.

Re: Brother MFC 5100c bogus paper jams reported
Godspeeed: We try to keep the OP on website as others can help when needed. Please do not instruct the OP to go off-site unless the entire Hardware Tech Team can not solve the problem and we have many smart people. Thank You

Re: Brother MFC 5100c bogus paper jams reported
No problem Godspeeed, if I offended you in any way I am very sorry. We just like to keep the OP on the site as long as possible before we hand them over to technical support. You may make that recommendation at any time, except when we are in the beginning of the thread since we are just getting started with the person. I hope you see what I am getting at and you take it in the spirit it is given in
