Sending a Fax from my Lexmark X2470

I have a Dell Dimension 2400 using XP with a Lexmark X2470 AIO and want to send faxes but can't seem to launch them. I have turned my AIO on and then put my document, face down and tried to activate the Fax Now but it won't work.
What am I forgetting to do?

Hi Oregonian and welcome to TSF

Where is the fax now activation, inside a program, or on the printer? What exactly do you mean "won't work." How does it not work, does it give you a error message?
