Thumbs Down HP L7680 woes

I bought an HP L7680 All In One about 6 months ago. I bought it after giving up spending a month trying to get a new HP 7310 to work. [Thanks for the refund, OfficeMax. ]

It was slightly challenging to get the L7680 running on my network, but it has been working mostly ok.

The software is extremely slow and bloated. The fax send hangs frequently. Then, a few days ago, the printer started showing offline frequently and the HP drivers have been posting various warnings to the alert log.

So, I checked HP's site for a software update and found one: 8.0.1, dated 2007-11-12, so decided to download and install it. Most of my systems are still running Windows 2000.

Much to my surprise, this "software update" removes all of the All In One functionality on Windows 2000. This update, all 331MB of it, only provides simple printer and scanner drivers. It removed all the remote monitoring, management, OCR, etc, functionality.

So, 6 months after buying this printer, HP has effectively decided to desupport Windows 2000 with no warning. I now have a very expensive printer/scanner.

This is the third HP product I have purchased in the last five years that HP desupported almost immediately.

No replies necessary. I've learned my lesson. Three strikes and you're out. This is the last product I will ever buy from HP.

Hopefully this post will help somebody else avoid the same mistake I made.

Does anybody else remember when HP was a quality company with high engineering standards and good support. My HP 4L (circa 1994) black & white laser printer still works fine on every operating system.

Rant off...

Re: HP L7680 woes

Fire off the quality control people, job out to China (a country whose products include date-rape drugs in children's toys, poison in medicine in central america, lead paint in baby toys) and we expect something that works?

We'll be lucky if the L7680 doesn't kill us.

Wonder if HP is anything more than a front for shoddy Chinese products?

Re: HP L7680 woes

HP L7680 Support or should I say NO Support any Longer, I have been trying now for Month's with about 4 or 5 Different Tech. Support personal.
So they call themselves that. But I sent a Message to the CEO of HP USA, and never thought I would even get a reply. Well I did, BUT, this top level Tech Support person was OH so concerned, and did start working with me, with no help at all either and then just stopped, disappeared, would not reply back to me any longer.
I know I have read in PC World Magazine that HP stopped having there Software(Drivers) for there printers. Be written by I think they said Canon, but that was last spring to summer sometime and not sure if if was Canon or another Company. And ever since that happen HP printers have been having Major Software problems, I still think the Hardware is very good, but with out the right Driver to run the Hardware, and no one in there Tech. Support Dept. that have any idea of what there doing is a Major Problem. Like many of you that I have already read reviews on HP printers, sit on the phone for HOURS, going round and round, and getting nowhere. They have you DO this SO that, over and over. And when done your still at the same problem that you started with, if you have not messed up your System even worse. HP if you what to remain in one of the top Hardware Company's, you must have the Tech. Support to handle any and all problems.
