Brother MFC-4550
This is similar to my other post, but with a twist.
I have a wireless network with 4 computers. I have a Brother MFC-4550 physically connected to a computer running XP SP2 My two other XP computers recognize and print to it without a problem. I just added a laptop running VISTA home premium. It sees the printer, but can not communicate with it. It says that the server does not have enough memory to complete the addition. The twist is that VISTA does not have a driver that matches so I can not add it as a local printer then add a port to the network location. Also, the Brother website does not have a VISTA driver on it. I keep getting the server memory error or error 0x0000046a. The MS website has a work around for 0x0000046a, but it is only for Windows 2000. I am running XP SP2. The keys in the registry that MS says to edit are not in XP at all. Why would it come up with a memory error when all my other computers work fine with it? How do I get it to work on VISTA? Your help is greatly appreciated. |

Re: Brother MFC-4550
You can not make this work without a Vista driver from Brother.
Some manufactors have been very slow to support Vista on newer printers. Some have no plans at all to support older models. Yet another reason Vista is having a hard time making people want to leave XP.

Re: Brother MFC-4550
have no luck getting bother mfc4550 working on Windows XP. How did Gayle do it? My windows xp pro sp2 PC has no LPT1 connection so I have connected through a printer to USB connector. The PC recognizes the MFC4550 but says there is no driver that will work.

Re: Brother MFC-4550
It is a Radio shack printer to USB cable. The PC has no LPTconnector. There is no MFC 4550 listed in XP when I tried to manually choose the driver. I got the printer to work finally manually choosing the XP software for MFC 4450 ... so now it prints and will print from other PCs connected to the network. No scan function. Anyone who has an old but trusty MFC 4550 may be able to get it to work by choosing the MFC4450 driver. Lots of time wasted trouble shooting this

Re: Brother MFC-4550
You could add a LPT card if it is hooked to a desktop. I have linked to one below.
