printer connection??
we have replaced a canon IR210 printer with a IR5000pcl.the workstation here uses a VPN connection to the main office.when the VPN is connected we cannot print to the IR5000.in printers properties the printer cannot be found. when we disconnect the VPN then close printer properties then open print properties the printer shows ready....we have the same drivers on local comp and the remote server...

Re: printer connection??
I have seen this type of problem before.
The VPN software was set up to deny access to the local net while the VPN is in use. Try pinging the local printer when the VPN is on line. PING <ip address> If you can not ping the printer then talk to your VPN support people. Andrew |

Re: printer connection??
Is the printer at the remote location, or where you are at? Also, are you the IT admin there?

Re: printer connection??
Well, first things first, if the printer is no longer showing up at all we need to re-install it.

Re: printer connection??
If you are paying for support get them to come out and look at it. Don't pay money and not utilize it. That said, the remote location has its own network , and the printer is installed on it? It is a network printer, not a local, correct? In post 7 you said when you log in as an admin the settings are greyed out. Is this printer specific to another company? For example, we have printers here that belong to another company who contract here. We are not admins on their equipment. Is that the case here?

Re: printer connection??
Could be that the vpn network settings are over-riding the peer settings as bogdraggon
suggested. It is just odd that the other printer worked fine.
