HP PSC 1311 All in one

I'm kind of a newbie, so please excuse my ignorance. My printer has a black and a color cartridge. Both must be installed for the printer to work. My black cartridge is running low on ink, and I just want to change to color in the meantime. How do I do that? When I click on "properties" then "color" tab, I get a box that says "Color Options" but then there is no option within that box to choose the color cartridge. What am I missing? I can't find anything in the user manual about choosing the black or color option.

You don't. Believe me, I have tried with HP printers, and the option does not exist anywhere. Putting a colour cartridge in the black cartridge holder makes an unholy mess (speaking from personal experience
