HP 1012 printer

I have a hp 1012 printer that will print from my laptop computer but not from my dest top. I am running windows xt the desktop. The error message I am getting is "out of paper". I have deleted and re installed the software & driver using the original disk and also off the internet.

Any Ideas?

Re: HP 1012 printer

Hi and welcome,
Its a stupid question, but I've got to ask: is there paper in the printer? If so, is the printer hooked to the laptop or the desktop computer?

Re: HP 1012 printer

I appreciate the help. What is confusing is that the printer will print when connected to thew laptop, but not when it is connected to the desktop. So the answer to your question is yes it does have paper and is hooked up to the desktop.

Re: HP 1012 printer

Are you using the same driver as the one on the laptop? Also, did you share the printer (even though that should be affecting the laptop, not vice versus)? Are you just clicking on the print button, or are you going to file print, then choosing the printer? Microsoft has this thing called document image writer that print jobs will sometimes print to as default. Also, right click my computer, choose hardware, click device manager, click view, choose show hidden devices. Are there any exclamation or questions marks by printers?

Re: HP 1012 printer

The laptop has the old driver from the original disc. The Desktop has had both a driver from the original disc loaded on to it and when that one did not work I downloaded the driver from hp's website. Still did not work. No question marks or exclamations by the installed printers. There is the check mark indicating the hp1012 is the default printer.

Re: HP 1012 printer

When you say the error message is "out of paper", is this written on a lcd, or are you looking at a light?

Re: HP 1012 printer

Click start, run, type services.msc
Is print spooler set to disabled? The thing throwing the wrench in the gears is the message out of paper. Is there more than on feed or tray to this printer?

Re: HP 1012 printer

Thanks again. The printer spooler shows startup type set to automatic; This printer has just the paper tray and the feeder for individual sheets

Re: HP 1012 printer

Even though you used it before, uninstall the drivers, then load only the driver from the cd. Lets see what happens this time.
