I'm tired of the inkjet, throwaway printers! Put a new cartridge in a xmark 22$ printer & the damned thing never worked right afterwards. After violently depositing it in the "file 13" dumpster,I've decided to spend some serious money on a printer that might last more than 3 or 4 months. I'd like to get a laser printer, between 100-200 bucks. The Brother HL-2040 looks decent,I seldom print more than 100 pages a month. I suspect my infrequent use of an ink printer is the big problem. Any problems w/laser printers that I should be aware of in general,as I've never owned one? I've read that the "drum" often costs more than the printer itself. Any help appreciated, thanks!

Re: shopping for laser printer
If you are looking for a Brother printer, the drum (generic brand) would cost about $60 and it will last up to 20,000 pages. So, since you only print about 100 pages a month. I wouldn't worry about it. As for the toner (generic brand), they'll cost around $35-$45 and should print out about 6000-7000 pages.
I like the HL-5250DN Brother Printer, it's fast (30 ppm), and I printed out over 15,000 pages and it has only jammed once. This one is a Refurbished model, but it's only $150. http://www.staples.com/webapp/wcs/st...&cmArea=SEARCH |

Fired off a moneyorder to neutron for brother hl-2040 today.122.70 shipped. The phone is necessary, they like to talk. I used to live in that godforsaken(thepeoplesrepublic)commonwealth(HA!) state years ago. Not having a printer while trying to buy one online sucks. I'll let you uns' know if the cursed thing works.

I guess I should have shopped around for a sale on the printer. Newegg wants 114 bucks for it right now,but after reading the cust. reviews, apparently they did have them on sale in the recent past. I paid 101 bucks plus 20 bucks shppg. In the past, neutron had the best prices on other items I've bought from them, but they got me on the printer. Got it yesterday(6-20) and it was a piece of cake to setup. Easy to follow instructions, driver install easy, not bloated w/crap I don't need or want. Printed 1st page about 20 min. after opening box. Never had laser printer before,so far I love it. Thanks for the responses!
