Hi.
I've installed all the CD software for a new printer (Epson R265). All seems OK, except the installation fails when it can't finish the setup (after I've been prompted to connect the USB 2.0 cable). The PC knows there is a new device attached, but the 2 won't communicate. Icon on the bottom right bar shows a pic of the printer. Whenever I try to print, I get a message "error - printing" in the print queue box. I am reasonably competent at installing stuff, but this is annoying me ! I have checked the USB ports and they are all OK. Cable is new. I have no other USB devices connected, except a wireless broadband connector. I have tried installing the printer using the Hardware wizard and configuring the USB port, but again, this seems to work, but then nothing actually prints. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks |

Re: Printer / PC won't communicate
Try selecting the printer in the tool bar and refreshing the list or deleting the print que.
If that doesnt work go to add or remove programs and uninstall the printer drivers and reinstall them. |

Re: Printer / PC won't communicate
Thanks for the quick reply.
If I tell you what I've done so far, it might help for some more advice. I had to replace my old printer as it was broken - uninstalled all Lexmark programs, and the Lexmark printer from the list. Inserted CD from Epson and began installation. All seemed OK, connected printer to USB port when prompted. Couldn't finish set up (error message something to do with a .INF file not in expected location ?) I've tried installing it just using the Plug and Play detection, then using the wizard, and manually searching for the drivers files on the Epson CD. Strangely, it puts a pic of the printer onto the bottom toolbar, but I can't print anything - all USB checks show "the device is working properly". The USB cable is new and works on other devices. What's even more strange is that I had previously tried to install a HP5940 Deskjet last weekend (new aswell), and got the same error message about INF files. Thanks for any help offered. |

Re: Printer / PC won't communicate
Ok go to device manager and see if it shows an explenation mark next to the printer device.
If it does right click the device and update driver then select yes this time only and then advanced. Next select search for the best driver in these locations and make sure the search removeable media box is ticked and also make sure the printer driver is in the cd rom then click next Last edited by Barnsey; 06-07-2007 at 06:04 AM. |

Re: Printer / PC won't communicate
There are two things I suggest.
1. Restarting the computer if you haven't(u probably have) 2. Using a parellel cable if using USB, or if the USB cable is generic, and you have a different one of the same type, try that one instead. Hope this works for you! |
