HP Deskjet 5550 does not print

I have HP Deskjet 5550 printer (and winXP op. sistem)...it printed just fine for years...a week ago I mistakenly uninstalled the driver from "add/remove programs" menu...

Then I downloaded the driver from interenet and after installing it, the printer did not work...

If I order a document to be printed, it shows in the "printer dialog box" and after few seconds it disappears as if it was printed...but printer doesn't print the document...

I wnet to HP interenet site and there they have a program that checks, if you have proper driver installed - it checked my system and said I have the right driver installed...

I checked cables many times and they seem ok...

Any suggestions?

Thank you

Have you tried another cable between the computer and printer?

No I haven't tried that, because just a day ago printer was OK and the cable was not damaged in any way...

sometimes the internet downloads are broken down into several downloads. The cd should have everything you need. And if it works, you can upgrade to the net version down the road.

Re: HP Deskjet 5550 does not print

Uninstaled internet driver and installed original CD driver...no improvement...during the setup process my printer ought to print a sample (test) page, but it just didn't...

I spent hours thinking what went wrong and remembered some events, that could have caused this:
1. when transporting printer some ink leaked from the printer (I suppose from cartriges) in the area where the plug-ins are located...but it printed OK few weeks after that "accident", so this is probably not the cause
2. I replaced colour cartridge few days before the problem...this cartridge was not original, but was used cartridge filled with colour...but I printed some colour documents after that...
3. the instance when printer stopped printing was (if I recall right) printing a word document with some colour pictures...
4. months before the problem I deleted some files from windows folder...I think I deleted files from C:\windows\driver cache\i386...I hope this is not the reason...what to do if this is so?

Thank you!

Re: HP Deskjet 5550 does not print

These symptoms are indicative of either an incorrect driver or a corrupt driver. Also, make sure that the printer's queue is clear (empty).

For this printer under XP, HP offers two different drivers :
1. Parallel cable cable
2. USB or parallel cable
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/s...=71896&lang=en

Choose the correct one and place it in a file on your computer (or on a CD) and make a note of the location. Be sure that it is unzipped (if necessary).

Now force XP to reinstall the printer using the newly acquired driver :

Start > Control Panel > Admin Tools > Comp Mgt > Device Manager > View > Show Hidden Devices > Find Your Printer & rt click on it > Choose "Update Driver"
When asked, point the Wizard to the location of the newly acquired driver.

Re: HP Deskjet 5550 does not print

I don't have any print jobs waiting in a queue...

Tried uninstalling and reinstalling various drivers (from original CD, from HP homepage) numerous times, but nothing works...

Re: HP Deskjet 5550 does not print

I would try this printer with different computer to verify that the printer is OK.

If the printer is OK, then (if you haven't already) I would run sfc /scannow on the original computer.
http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html
Then try to install printer.

If still no joy, and after a thorough backup of your valued data, try a Repair Install of Windows, if you are comfortable with such things.
