Dell AIO 962 printer probs

hi...my mum has one of these dell printers, but it is playing up and could do with some advice.

on normal settings it will print one line fine and the next line will be a big long block of black ink...and then the next lineis ok again...and so on.

my dad has said that when he set the printer to photo, it printed more slowly and came out ok. The have just put new cartridges in so it shouldn't be clogged jets or anything like that.

Like i said...any help would be great.

drowsy :)

Idea Re: Dell AIO 962 printer probs

I take it the lines are going across the page as opposed to down the page ?
I suggest running a cleaning cycle or two, you should be able to do this by launching the printer software and hopefully within that you will find the utility to clean the nozzles, as I said it may take more than one go, another way you may be able to do this is by pressing a button or buttons on the printer itself, it may show which you need to do to achieve the same result.
After this if it is still coming out the same it may be worth trying to clean the unit manually with an appropriate cleaner, how old is the actual unit ? might be it's ink pad is full, see if any of this helps.

Cry Re: Dell AIO 962 printer probs

Have you tried cleaning it manually with an ink cleaner ?
You can get cartridges to run through some systems like an ink cartridge does that will clean the jets etc from any clogs, not sure if they do one for that brand though, but I'm working through their guide and as I suggested above they said the same, but they suggest removing the cartridges at this stage and wiping the heads with a clean dry cloth and to clean inside the carriage the same way, but they do stipulate not to use the same cloth to avoid making any contamination worse, they then say put them back and try again, then they move onto the encoder strip, but rather than repeat all the info here, I'll link you to the trouble shooting guide so you can work through it yourself as you may see something more relevant to you than I did.
Apart from that I would be looking at checking the hardware for ink such as the rollers etc and cleaning those, but given the cost of these things today you may reach a stage where you say bin it and buy new, if you do I suggest looking at HP models, hope this helps though.

Re: Dell AIO 962 printer probs

I see someone got the link for the troubleshooting guide posted before I could. ;)

It sounds to me like the print head itself is the problem. If 8210GUY's suggestions haven't fixed the problem then unfortunately it may need to be replaced. If the printer is still in warranty that is a simple matter of calling into Dell support (the tech will need to go over the troubleshooting you have done, but if you explain the results of any testing you have already done it should go quickly). If you are not sure if it is still under warranty I can easily check that for you with a bit of information about the printer (send me a PM if you would like me to check).

If you have any questions about the printer that are not answered by the link 8210GUY posted I will be happy to answer them.
