Question

Have you tried running the head cleaning on it a few times ?
Also are you using genuine or replacement ink\cartridges ?
And finally has it been sat a while since last being used ?

Yes, I have run the head cleaning and it hasn't done anything. And YES I have always used NEW Epson cartridges in it. I am gone sometimes for 6 weeks at a time, so yes, my printer does sit without being used for that time. But I have been gone before for long periods of time and it has always worked for me when I return. Do you think it would clog up now? Have you heard of this happening to other people? I am disturbed because I bought this printer in Oct. of 2004, so it is just over 2 years old. Shouldn't it last longer than that??

Idea

Well there is no time limit really because there are so many variables, but one would hope it would last longer, if the ink cartridges are full and flowing freely I can only suggest cleaning the heads, I suspect they have become to clogged to do it the normal way you have already tried, what you need is a head cleaning kit\solution, no guarantees it will work, but it should be cheap enough to try compared to a new printer, but worst case they aren't that dear these days anyway, we are becoming a disposable age where nothing really lasts like it used to, they probably engineer the products so they do break down sooner rather than later as it creates more business for them (thats just the cynic in me lol).
Anyway I can't find what I remember seeing way back, but here are 2 similar solutions on the same theme to give you an idea, hope it helps.

My System

Epson printers are prone to clogging when left for extended periods....mainly becaise the print heads are built into the printer, this also makes the ink cart cheaper when compared to HP who's ink cart contain new print heads and are not built into the machine. The cleaning solutions do work, just follow the directions very carefully, forcing fluid thruogh them or getting lint into them will ruin both the head and thus the printer. Onc you have them cleaned, try to print ay least one color doc a week to keep them clean, and/or turn the printer off when not in use
