Satellite TV to Pc

Hi there,

I was hoping to get some advice.

Is there anyway I can set my Pc up to receive satellite Tv at an reasonable cost. I live in an isolated region and can't get a very good analogue picture and there is no freeview avaiable. I'm also moving to Spain soon and thought that if I was able to set up my computer as my basic media centre (i.e a place from which to play my music, radio and TV then I would be able to sell my old television and have less to transport over on the move. Once I'm over in Spain I shall look at buying a decent LCD screen for my computer. This way I can have my very own home theatre system run from my home computer.

Is this a real option or am I seeking out technology that doesn't exist yet?

I've seen a lot of adverts on ebay selling satellitie tv tuner products but am nervous about bidding as I wouldn't no what i'm purchasing. Unfortunately I'm not very up on computer jargon. SO any advice would be much appreciated.

do a google search for Hauppauge Cards, you can get free to air or ones with a card slot for pay tv and pvr ability
what sats you will receive depends on the size of the dish and if it is stationary or on a motored mount

Thanks for the reply

I found this Hauppauge by doing a google search:

http://www.hauppauge.co.uk/pages/pro...ata_nexus.html

Would I just need to insert it into my computer (I have windows XP) and away I go. Is it that simple?

TIA

Re: Satellite TV to Pc

the card i recommended you need a sat dish which you feed down to the card in the computer
the card comes in 2 versions
free to air
and the other with a card slot which you use with pay tv programming
the one that you linked to i looked into about 12mths ago uses no card from memory just links to net broadcasts do a google search on it i seem to remember it was a con
you pay them for what you can access for free
i.e
