Idea Beeping and power off.......

Well I'm thinking the PSU is going bad.....The computer shuts down without any warnings or errors and then has a disturbing whistling sound. I have to shut off the PSU for awhile and then restart everything. The longer I leave it off, the longer it will run the next time, it seems. I cleaned the unit just a few months ago when installing a new case fan, it still seems to be pretty clean. Does this sound like the problem? If so, what type PSU is recommended? I have an AMD athlon 2600+ on a Soyo KT600 Dragon board. This PSU is a 350W and I probably need a 400W?

Thanks, wtajax

Could be. Could also be overheating. Do you have a program that reads system temps?

Overheating?

Yes, I have a monitor for temp and all seem to be okay. I will try cleaning the heat sinks and fans and readjust the settings on that program. But, if that doesn't work, I'll assume its the PSU and replace it. The PSU is about 4-5 years old.

My System

Hi,

Here is a decent low cost psu that works well with socket A systems I have used it many times and works well as long as you don't have a newer high powerd video card.
