Is there such a thing as a USB splitter
OK hope someone can help. This is going to get hairy--- I hope I can describe my problem so someone can understand it.
Im building a new computer which has a MSI K8NEO-FIS2R MOTHERBOARD. The motherboard has 2 connectors on it to receive what I call a dual USB plug. They will allow a total of 4 USB cables to connect into them. Im using one of these connectors for the 2 USB ports on the front of my case. MSI also provided what they call a D bracket which has two USB female ports on it along with a set of led lights for analyzing. ?????? This D bracket is meant to be mounted into one of the spots on the back of the case next to where the PCI cards are accessed. It has two USB cables running into one dual plug. I would like to plug this into the other plug on the motherboard. Also on the back of the mother board(case) where all the jacks are there are 2 more regular female USB ports which I can plug my more permanent devices into. So there would be total of 4 female USB ports on the back of the case. My problem is I also have a 3 1/2 floppy with a USB card reader built into it which has a cable with a single USB plug similar to the type that would plug into a motherboard connector. Is there such a thing as a splitter cable that would give me an extra internal mother board type connector to plug the card reader into, or would I be overloading that particular dual connector? My other alternative is to route the cable from the card reader accross the Mother board and out the back of the case to plug into one of the four female ports on the back of the case. But again I would need some type of adapter to go from the internal connector type to the female USB port. Im also thinking about removing one of the 4 wire sets on the D bracket from the plug and then remove the 4 wires on the card reader plug. Then reinstall these wires into the plug on the cable from the D bracket. This way I would just loose 1 female USB port on the back of the case. Worse comes to worse I know I can just not install the D bracket and use the motherboard connector for the card reader. Im just trying to keep as many USB port available as possible. Thanx in advance for anybody that can help me. Bob |
