Wacom/Tablets

Hi,

I'm thinking of getting a Wacome/Tablet just for the sake of getting one!
Well thats not true actually, I'm getting one because I have started a lot of skinning etc recently.

However, I have been looking at these sort of ones.

I know they are not very big etc, but how well would this fullfil my purpose?
I'm not looking to do it professionally etc - I am more just getting started etc...

Any suggestions?

Thanks
Amnesia

I used to have one but didn't have the time to use it so I gave it away. The person I gave it to, however, is quite smitten with it. They are very high quality pads. The smaller ones are great for starting out on and the big ones are perfect for the professional.

I have the more expensive US$300 model. I used it when doing some serious image retouching. I had previously used the mouse. Once I tried the tablet, I was spoiled forever. It's hard to go back to drawing with a mouse after using a tablet. The main difference between the more expensive models and the cheaper ones like the one you linked is that the more expensive models can sense the angle at which you hold the pen as well as the pressure whereas the cheaper models can only sense pressure. Sensing the angle is useful for some kinds of drawing but the pressure sensitivity is the most important feature so the cheaper models are still very useful. The only "problem" with the tablet you linked is that it's a little small. I have the larger 6 by 8 inch tablet but I'm not usually using the whole surface of the thing. I think that even a small tablet like the one you linked would still be pretty good. I know that wacom makes low cost versions of their 6 by 8 inch tablets (no angle sensing) but are still much cheaper than the full versions. You might see if you can find one of those. If not, I think the 4 by 5 inch version you linked would still be much better than a mouse.

I've got severe RSI, and need to use either a tablet or a very sensitive mouse :s

I loooovee my Graphire3, it's just great!! My boyfriend, who's more seriously into 3D modelling than I am has an Intuos, but I have to be honest, I dont find it as comfortable to use, even though it is better than the Graphire.

You can get conflicts arising though. I have a
Logitech G5 mouse
Graphire tablet
Saitek keyboard
powermate
Saitek flightsticks

and I would say i have to reinstall windows about every 3-5 months to fix the conflicts that arise, things stop responding, things fail, keyboard stops being recognised by windows, etc.
I've not found a way of fixing it without reinstalling, Ive tried uninstalling/reinstalling drivers, etc. but nothing works
