IPOD Problems

I have a 4GB IPOD Mini and download radiio programs daily through ITunes. On three occasions now the IPOD has simply quit during playback, even though it is fully or almost fully charged. All icons and menu listings disappear and the controls become inoperative.

When this occurs nothing I can do brings the unit back to life. Pluggng it it in to a USB port doesn't help and the desktop computer won't 'recognize' the IPOD as an external drive. The unit is totally dead.

I unplug the unit from the USB port, lay it aside and check it from time to time. Two or three days later (still disconnected from the USB port) it will come back to life. The Apple logo wll appear, and then the menu. The battery icon will show that the unit is full or nearly fullyy charged and all my downloads are intact.

The first time it happened I was worried, because the IPOD had just passed ts warranty period. Since then it's just been an annoyance.

Question: 1) Is anyone else experiencing this problem?
2) Is there a 'fix' for this problem?

i have never heard of this problem. have you reset the ipod?

To reset iPod mini, iPod mini (Second Generation), iPod photo, and iPod (Click Wheel)

Toggle the Hold switch on and off. (Slide it to Hold, then turn it off again.)

Press and hold the Menu and Select buttons until the Apple logo appears, about 6 to 10 seconds. You may need to repeat this step.
Tip: If you are having difficulty resetting your iPod, set it on a flat surface. Make sure the finger pressing the Select button is not touching any part of the click wheel. Also make sure that you are pressing the Menu button toward the outside of the click wheel, and not near the center.
also might be a good idea to make sure the ipod's softwareis up to date. goto apple and download the latest ipod updater. connect the ipod to your computer and then run the updater. click not on the update, but the reset to factory specs. ya this will erase all on the ipod, but it does a better job of updating and resetting. i have found in the past w/my ipod that if i do this when it is misbehaving, it runs better afterward.

Thank you -- I'll try what you suggest. A news junkie, I use the IPOD only to record broadcasts that I would otherwise miss, and then delete them after listening to them. Thus the fact that a reset will 'erase everything' on the IPOD is not a problem.

The puzzler is that the problem I described corrects itself after two or three days

thats why i sujested doing the reset and update. it sounds like after the ipod goes into a deep sleep (which it does in 2-3 days) it is doing a soft reset. by having you reset the ipod, it does the same thing as waking from deep sleep, which is the soft reset. and many times, reinstalling the ipod updates will make sure the ipod os is not corrupt and make problems like this go away.
