First I'll explain the setup of my pc.
On top WAS cd-rom, [took that out & replaced it with a 40gb hdd] under that is DVD writer, under that is 200gb HDD, & under that is a 60gb hdd. (let me know if CS, M, or S are important for any of those 3) I installed a 40gb hdd in place of my cd-rom. (Cable Select) I did it for emergency backup purposes not really storage [dont intend to use it much]. Installed HDDlife to monitor hdd temps. Entire system seemed to be running a bit slower now so a friend advised me to check my IDE controller settings. Primary had device 0 & 1 @ UDMA mode 5 & secondary had device 0 @ UDMA mode 5 with device 1 @ mode 2. He said to uninstall my IDE controller so it would possibly reinstall @ mode 5. I did that, came back & received the 'found new hardware' msg's but then i got "cannot install this hardware there was a problem installing this hardware. IDE Channel an error occurred during the installation of this device driver is not intended for this platform device may not work properly" attempt after attempt..... uninstalled Alcohol 120%, Daemon tools, Roxio easy cd, Nero, WinIso, Isobuster, & HDDlife >>>>"something to do with drivers roxio or adaptec puts on system. these drivers, if in existence, can interfere with drive recognition after installing another burning app."<<<< (anything to do with virtual drives, burning or hdd monitoring,.... may be some left, not sure) Cleaned my reg with RegMech, went into regedit HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE & deleted entries like nero & such. (again, may have missed some) I even moved cd*.sys files from windows/system 32/drivers out of the folder ..,cleaned my reg again, uninstalled secondary IDE controller AGAIN (for the 4th or 5th time) & rebooted but i got the same message again after found new hardware like above "cannot install this hardware...... ........................... device may not work properly" anything i may be missing like cd ripping software? IMTOO or CDex ? I'm including a partial installed programs pic to see if anyone can filter anything else out for me. (there's quite a few that are obviously unrelated) http://photobucket.com/albums/a121/L...t=42ee4f7d.jpg device manager is showing (!)IDE Channel Intel(r) 82801BA Bus Master IDE Controller Primary IDE Channel I can still access data on my dvd drive & my newly installed 40gb but I still think my system runs slower but i cant check the transfer mode for my secondary IDE channel. ANY additional advice is welcome. THANKS FOR ANY TIME OR HELP Mr.M

You might try using your mobo disk to reinstall the bus master ide controller drivers. When you delete the ide channels, you are not supposed to delete the bus master with them. You might also want to swap around IDE ribbon cables to make sure yours are working well and securely fastened. For your older chipset the UDMA modes and settings looked OK to me...the HDDs were at UDMA5 and the CD drive was at mode 2.

Well for one, mobo disk [motherboard?] sorry, odnt know all the jargon yet.
I dont have one. my system is a damn Dell. I thought my bus master ide controller hadn't been removed, it's still showing. any idea where to find drivers for my board? is this right ?>>>> http://www.ntcompatible.com/story6146.html (intel 82801BA ICH2 IDE Storage Drivers) >>just found out its a dead link Also, i can't swap my ribbon cables around because of how tight they are to the inside of my system. With a Dell, you can try a repair install. They might have given you repair disks, but newer systems don't include them unless you ask. Dell's do have a hidden partition that has the Windows install disc on it(or something similar) so you can repair from that. It may be accessible thru a 'system restore' . You may have to contact Dell for more info. Since dell can be rather proprietary, I would only install chipset drivers that you get from dell to be safe.
