USB 2.0 - General Question re Speed

Hi

Can anyone tell me how I can check what speed my USB2.0 ports are operating at?

It's a general question as I have a couple of USB2.0 devices that just don't seem as fast as I'd been lead to believe USB2.0 to be.

Thanks

Paul

@ paulcc
USB1.1 theoretical speed is 12Mbits/s=1.5MBytes/s. Actual speed is less

USB2.0 theoretical speed is 480Mb/s=60MB/s. Actual speed is less, usually 40MB/s at best, depending on your device and system/CPU strength. Some flash drives like my Sandisk Cruzer Mini 256MB only have a transfer rate of about 8MB/s.

You can check your transfer rate speed with many different devices and utilities like HDTach for HDDs and flash drives or Nero CD-DVDSpeed transfer rate test and burst rate test for OpticalDiskDrives.
