I need any help I can get right now guyz. I have a report due in my A+ Certification class at the Washington County Career Center and it is saved on my computer. Now this is where the problem starts. My dad pulled my computer desk out to clean behind it and didn't bother to unplug the cables from the computer. His foot got caught in the cables and when he went to walk away.... well... he pulled the tower off the desk and it hit the floor faceplate first and I hurried and put it back on the desk before it could hit the floor hard in another place. Now, I measured the height from which the tower fell and it came to 3 feet. I took the computer apart and looked inside to see if anything was broke. Everything looked just fine nothing broke and all chips and cards are still set good in there places. I just got done installing a 128 MB memory card in the computer 24 hours prior to this event. I don't know if that is going to have any relevancy or not but if it does I'm glad I put it there. If you need the other specs from my computer just click on My System over on the side of this message. When I turned the computer back on it ran but I got no display what so ever on my monitor however I got a series of beeps from the POST. 1 Long, 4 Short, and then 2 Long. I need this computer to run before Thursday so I could really use the help guyz.
P.S. I have a guy who might work on the computer if you guyz can't help me get it fixed. I just prefer to do it myself since I am training to become an IT Technician. Practice makes perfect right. |

If this was my machine and I was in the predicament you are in, I would yank the drive and slave it in another computer to see if you can get you data off it.

I would if I had another computer I was permitted to do that on. I found out that I have a "Parity Failure First 64k RAM" and it is a fatal error. crazijoe, if you can help me get my entire computer running it would be greatly appreciated.

I might also consider reseating the CPU and HeatSinkFan assembly. The 'first 64K' could be L1 cache of the CPU...of course it does say 'RAM'. A jolt like it incurred could have put forces on the CPU/HSF assembly to pop it out and bend a pin...,check carefully for bent pins. If you separate the HSF and CPU, you will have to get some thermal paste and reapply the thermal paste between the CPU and HSF
Keep us posted with your progress

Thanks for the advice guyz, I am currently in school since that is the only time I can get on the net. When I get home I am going to take your advice into practice and see if it solves anything. I think I will try removing the 128 MB card. My question to you guyz today is, how does this Parity Failure affect my display on the monitor? I have an integrated graphics card so its not like I could just reseat it. I await your answers. Thanks again.

I started reading the post a little deeper and please may be on to something with the cache memory. I would try and reseat the CPU first and if that doesn't work try the memroy as I suggested.

I was planning on that but it is nice to know that 2 different Technicians think the same thing. I will try to reseat the processor and I will attempt to boot the computer without the 128 MB Stick o' Memory. Thanks for helping me with this guys. I will update you tomorrow on whether or not these ideas fixed the problem or not. Until then you guys keep giving your help to "Technicians-to-be" like myself. On behalf of all the Technician Trainees on here Thanks!

I figured it out. joe had the correct answer! That 128 MB memory stick that I had installed turned out to be defective. I removed it and replaced it with my old 64 MB Memory stick and voila... the system booted and loaded all my files except my report. It somehow wound up deleted in the process. Oh well I got all night to work on it til school in the morning. Thanks for all the help and support guys!

Your report could have been opened at the time and when the computer got knocked down, it shut down and didn't save it.
But anyways glad you got it to work. |

Ok guys, this one is a tricky one cause it involves money. I was able to get my Task Manager working finally however I have 1582 Registry Problems. I need a Registry Fixer but they cost alot more money than I have. I'm working on an extremely tight budget, $20 at the most. Please let me know if you have a Registry Fixer that falls in this price range.
