New Guy with a problem

This is my first post. I find this site an excellent place to review products and problems.

I do have a problem and not sure this is whre I post it. Maybe someone has the answer. I am trying to get cable TV on my compuer where I can change channels on the computer that is different than what is playing on the TV.

I have a ATI Radeon X850 pro Video card and a flat screen monitor. I can receive TV on my computer but can't change the channel. The cable is digital. I have another digital cable coming into the room above but I'm told by TV tuner vendors that I need line of sight to the cable box. I'm trying to watch different channels than what my wife is watching. I figured I would use the computer to do this. Maybe this isn't possible. If I posted in the wrong place just tell me.
