Firewire + Raedon 8500 Strange Compatibility Occurance.
I have a Athlon XP with 512 DDR Memory.
A couple of months ago i installed a PCI Firewire slot on my last free PCI connector. I have never needed to use it since friday. But i bought a firewire cable and connected it to this on the back of the PC (i had not connected it to the device yet). However my machine went haywire. When booting up my machine i got a cloudy dodgy colour for my desktop (looked like a old spectrum 48k colour screen). So i went into my resolution settings and it was stuck to both 480 and 4bit. Could not increase them. I went into the device manager and my Firewire slot and Raedon 8500 had yellow exclamation marks on them. On trouble shooting an error on the Raedon came up saying Code 12 (and something about sharing resources). Also suspecting this was just a windows problem i tried to boot up linux. All was well until the GUI was supposed to come up, but nothing did. I thought i had broke my machine for a while. But then pulled out the Firewire and all went back to normal. What is wrong, and how do i fix it, as i would like to be able to plug things into my firewire port. (it is a PCI card based). Thanks Anthony |

Most computers will not let you control the IRQ sharing. For starters, try changing the pci cards around. Sometimes this will make the computer use differant irq's than before. If this does not work, post back with more details such as make/model of motherboard or computer and what pci devices you have.
