Having problems powering up! Please Help

I am having problems with my computer powering up when I shut it down over night. When I turn my computer on the fan comes on and the yellow light for my cd rom drives flashes but the green power light does not and nothing hapens. So I will push the button in turn it off, you can hear it shut down and try again and still the same thing. It doesn't seems to want to come on but about after the 3rd or 4th try of turning on and off it will finally boot up with the power light on. My computer seems to work fine other than that. But I am scared to turn off my computer afraid that it won't ever come back on. I really need help. Any suggestion?

your power supply may be getting ready to pack it in,next time switch the power off at the back of the computer or at the wall before trying to restart and see if it kicks in straight away

Ok I will try that tonight and let you know tomorrow. If the power supply goes iis it easy to replace? I just want to make sure I am not going to lose everything I have on my computer if it does go out. So when I shut down tonight I should turn the switch on the back of my computer off? Thanks for such a quick reply.

you will not lose anything if you have to replace the power supply, but you could lose a number of componants if it decides to go
if it starts first time after turning it off and on at the back have it checked out and if you do replace go for a larger quality supply

Ok my Compaq did not have a switch on the back so i just switched it off from the wall....still when i turned it back on it still would not boot up. This time I tried 5 times before it started and when it did it got stuck on the screen that says Windows, so I shut it off again and turned it right back on then it started. Could this still be my power supply? If so is it easy to replace? (something I can do myself?)

they are easy to replace, just four screws to remove and the power plugs to the m/b drives ect
first check it is not just a bad contact
remove the plug to the m/b from the power supply and clean the contacts
then try it again
if still have the problem check the case switch,by touching the two pins that the switch connects to on the m/b with a paper clip or something similar to see if it boots up straight away
