Computer switching off.
Hi there. Im currently having a problem with my desktop cpu. The problem that im having is that it just switches itself off the same as it did when it was over heating in the summer. As in it switches off and I need to cut the power supply to it for a few seconds before I can turn it on again. The problem started occurring last Thursday just after I had installed some sound blaster live software on my computer for my sound card. What would happen would be that I would get to the windows screen where you can select the user and then on booting up the user the computer would just turn off. I tried leaving the computer on the user select screen to see if it would turn off there. It would happily stay on for at least half an hour then when I tried logging onto the user account it would shut down again. I thought it might be a problem with the stuff I had installed the previous night so I decided to format the hard drive and start again. This time the computer will get to varying stages of starting to install windows and will shut off again. I’m stumped as to what the problem is. I recently changed the power supply to a larger one after my last one died. I’ve had a little trawl round the net to see if I could find what may be the problem and I was wondering if it sounded like bad RAM (which has been fine for over a year now) or anything like that.
Would be most grateful if any one could shed any light on my problem. Thanks Dave |

The power supply that i bought a couple of weeks back after my 350w one that came with my tower case died is a Jeantech 450w. Im pretty sure it aint one of the best but i would have expected it to atleast be better than my last one.
Thanks |

I havent been able to reload windows onto the computer since i reformatted it at the weekend. However i booted up the computer and went into the bios setup and theres a temperature monitor in there. Ive just had it running in there for the past half hour and the temperature on the cpu seems to be sitting at 58-59 degrees c with the motherboard being at around 32 degrees c. I conducted another memtest last night on it with a table fan blowing cold air in behind the computer to see if it was the temperature that caused it to crash but the computer shut down during the mem test again so i think it might be the ram. Would you suggest that i try installing windows again using just one of the sticks of RAM installed to see if it works this way?
