wont boot

A friend on mine is having the following problem can you make me look good here? He has a HP with XP and when he turns the computer on it shows the HP logo on the monitor and that’s it. I tried hitting f8 when booting it up to see if I could do a safe start and still the annoying HP blur screen appears. We have unplugged it and still the same results. Anyone have any ideas for me?
Thanks in advance.

HP problems

I too am unfortunate enough to have an HP. Did he upgrade to XP or did it come with the computer? HP's cant really handle the XP upgrade. locate a boot disk and try that, but if dont work, he may have to use the HP recovery disk and start over.

boot disks are fairly easy to find online.
