No power after install new case!
hi everybody. i just got a few questions need to be answer. I just bought a new case for my old pc at home. It is a Jeantech light fusion, it came with a lot of wires and i am struggling (for the whole day) to figure out how to collect to those wire into right place for example like h.d.d LED, power sw and so on, there are about four or five of them, they are supposed to connect to the front of the pc like LED, reset LED... i don't have a clue dispite the fact that i consulted to my mother board manual. Just few hours ago, i transfered all the old components from the older case to the new one and i have to leave out some of wires. But the thing that scare me is when i turn on the power in the socket wall, there is nothing happen, it was all silent and i am afraind that somehow i damaged the component(s) or the power supply unit.
One last thing, when you transfer the componen of the older case to the new one, do you have to do them in a preticular order? I just fitted in the power supply unit first then the mother board and the rest. Honestly, this is the first time i take my pc apart so any advices and suggestios would be very valuable to me so next time i won't make the same mistake again. Thank you for your time and sorry about the long post! |

There can be several differences in cases and power supplies. What power supply did you put in the case (list wattage and brand name) since I saw someplace that the case comes without a power supply? I could be wrong, but thought I saw that someplace. Please also tell us about your motherboard, CPU, and video card that you are using. If I were you, I would take the motherboard out of the case and start over to make sure you do it correctly. To see what might be wrong, build it out of the case or, sitting beside the case and on a piece of cardboard or a non-conductive surface. I assume that you have left the CPU and heatsink/fan connected to the motherboard. If that is correct, then you need to make sure that the heatsink fan is connected to the motherboard. The second step is to connect up the ATX or power supply connector and also the 12 volt square molex plug. (that is why we need to know the motherboard you are dealing with, because some ore different) When that is complete (assuming that you did not take out the memory), then leave the memory in the motherboard and do not remove it. If you did take it out, then put only one stick in. Now, put the video card in and hook up the monitor, keyboard, and mouse. You will also need to find the off/on switch wires from the case and connect them to the correct pins for the front panel connector (that is how the connector is usually labeled on most motherbaord manuals) You might also want to hook up the speaker wires to the front panel connector. DO NOT connect up anythng else, but try the computer to see if it comes on. Let us know at this point and we will talk you through the continuing process.

I have follow your step and the problem turned out to be the power cable at the fron panel, oh, you know when you press the power button in the front of the computer, that was my problem because there are four of these wires connect to LED, hard disk LED, reset switch and one more. I looked up my motherboard manual and the diagram shows how to link these cables was drawn in the wrong way resulted me to link these cables in the wrong pins and therefore when i press the power button in front panel, there was no power!!! I got it work yesterday, up until 10 o'clock pm.
But yet, another problem appears right after i booted up my pc, you might guess, that is the fan noisy. GOd, it was, is very noisy and everytime i do something on my pc all i can think of is the fan noise. Can you suggest me some way to reduce the fan noise. My jeantech case came with 2 fans included led and they are unbelievably noisy! Thanks for your reply, anyway! |

Hi,
Have you considered taking them out of the case and putting a rubber grommet between them and the case. Just a little piece of rubber under each screw sometimes helps. (you can buy fan noise kits from places like Bestbuy)

Trust me, the grommets help. I slapped on a few to my case fans and added rubber supports to my CPU fan and also one on the PSU. Noise has decreased considerably.

thanks alot guys! I got one last thing need to sort out, that is the front panel LCD temperature controller, there are some wires label mic-out, mic-out mic gnd, ear l, ear r, ear gnd.
I don't know what they are for and by the way, i manage to get the fans connect to the front panel so the speed of the fans is controlled automatically by the temperature dectected by the sensor. |

Those are for case mounted audio jacks. If you have them and there are headers on the motherboard then you're in luck. Works great for plugging in a mic or headphones.

yeah, i guess go, because apart from the LCD temperature controller in the front panel, it also came with 2 front usb (sweet) which i managed to plug them into the usb2 connector and only those audio jacks remain. I will open my pc again today and try to figure out where to plug those audio jacks! Thanks, i will keep you posted.

Typically, the front panel audio leads are located near the "back" of the board near the AGP slot.

Sorry, i don't get it this time. When i open my motherboard and the manual to find out where these leads connect to. But i think i should show you this sheet, came with the case."Pin assignment", and strange enough there is an odd cable from the front panel usb connector, its label is shield and here (i think) it links to the my "keyboard" draw below, to both 3
P2 red 1-------mic-in white 2-------mic-power spiral +----- 3-------mic gnd | | P3 | |----jump wire red----ear l | 1--+----red--------------ear l | | |----jump wire whiet---ear r | 2--+----white-------------ear r Shell------------------+----3--------spiral-------------ear gnd I don't have a clue about this and the motherboard manual can't give me much help. Hope you can shed some lights for me. Thanks. |

The case and board will have similar connections. I'll give an example...
: : : : : <- Pins on mobo 1-3-5-7-9 2-4-6-8-10 *REMINDER: This is an EXAMPLE ONLY* Pin assignements: 1-GND 2-NC 3-Rsend 4-Rreturn 5-NC 6-NC 7-Lsend 8-Lreturn 9-MICbias 10-MICgnd Your case wires should have similar labels. Black wires will always be ground.

Hmm, unfortunately none of those diagrams will work for what we're trying to do. *wishes he could just go over and set it up proper!* What's the model of the board? I can hopefully get the manual online and create a step-by-step guide for ya.
