Computer freezes....
Hi all,
OK, here's a strange problem... My computer randomly freezes. It doesn't seem to have anyting to do with what I'm doing on it at the time, i.e. playing graphically intensive games, which I never do anyway or running complicated aps. It just freezes, even during simple net surfing. Another problem that has developed lately is the inability to wake the comp up! When I go away from it for a few hours I can't wake it up by using the mouse nor the keyboard. It's just frozen dead and the only way to get it going is to reset it. I haven't made any hardware changes or installed any new programs prior save for upgrading my Zone alarm pro. I took it to a tech who ran a bunch of tests but nothing showed. BIOS are fine, memory is fine, hdd is fine, cpu's fine, no spyware or viruses, I even swiched the psu to see if that is the coz but it froze 10 minutes later. I'm not sure if this is a hardware problem anymore but I don't know where else to post this. My system info is posted below. Can anyone help? __________________ WIn XP pro SP2 AMD 2500+ Barton OC'd to 2.2 Ghz Asus A7V880 1Gb OCZ 3200 dual chanel ram (2x512) WD 160Gb 8Mb SATA BFG GeForce 5700LE AGP 256Mb Plextor PX-708A optical drive ViewSonic VP201s 20" monitor CoolerMaster TAC-T01 case Antec NeoPower 480w PSU Logitech Z2200 2.1 speakers M-Audio Sonica Theater USB Sound card |

Hi,
A couple of things you might look at; First, I would suggest for this problem that you monitor temps for the computer. You should have probe, so see what they report. Second, instability comes a lot of time with overclocking, so try it without doing any type of overclocking and see if that helps the stabililty.

Same problem
Hi akanrg,
I noticed your PCs problem. I developed this EXACT SAME problem just in the last 5 days or so. When I go to sleep I come back and find my PC won't wake up (monitor LED is blinking.. PC power LED is on). Also the system randomly freezes with the mouse no longer moving and keyboard not responding.. And I can't tie it to anything... EXCEPT I always have FIREFOX running at the exact times when these things occur.... I hate Internet Explorer.. But I'm wondering if something could be corrupt in my Firefox? This all started when this one website that sells ASUS laptops www.ynot2k.com kept freezing/slowing up my Firefox with its Macromedia Flash or Javascript... Then soon after my computer begain this strange activities the last 3-4 days. Also I wonder if there is any time component to this (infection??) dealing with some worm or something. Since your and my problem began at a similar time I think. Finally, we BOTH have ASUS motherboard (I have A7N8X-E Deluxe) and Athlons (I have XP 2400+ which is at 2ghz and not Barton). Please keep me informed if you fix your problem !!!!!!!!!!!!! If I can fix mine, I'll let you know too. I hope we both fix this problem. I have never had such a strange problem and the only possible kindof strange thing is that my power supply has a low reading for the +5v rail (4.8-4.75v) THANKS! Rory San Mateo, CA |

Or, if it's not too much trouble, try reformatting your computers. That would sure as hell rule out any software issues.

I'm having the same problem, actually. My computer worked fine at my old place. I moved and had it shipped to me and now it has the same issue. I'm going to check and see if the memory might've gotten dislodged or something.

Screen Freezing Problem
hi there,
I have (had) exactly the same problem (screen freezes, keyb/mouse also, constant brzzzzz sound from the speakers). My mech: a7v880 3200+ @11x200 2x512DDR400@333 (micron) set to single insted of dual The machines always freezed no matter what I have been doing, not matter what the load on it was, etc. I was searching over the internet and it turned out that many people with this mobo have the same problem. One guy advised to increase the vCore. I think now I'm running it at 1.75 or 1.8 instead of 1.65 or 1.7 (dunno, I'm in the office) so please try this and give me a feedback if it worked. I have changed the settings about three days ago and had no lock ups since then.

Hi,
No, 65c is not O.K., that is simply too hot. You should not have to increase the voltage that much IMHO. Tell us what fans are in that case, where they are located, and which direction they are pointed or blowing. Did you use Artic Silver or another solution for your heatsink/cpu? Take the side of the case off and blow out all dust. Then, take a fan and blow directly on the CPU area and tell us if the thing gets a better reading. Also, is your heatsink fan blowing down or pulling air up? Lastly, download and run the Sensorview program under my signature and take a reading while the computer is at-rest and then while under stress. List all the things the program has so we can get a better idea what is going on with your rig. Post back with questions/concerns.
