my pc is stupid

Hello, I hope someone here can help me. I have been having this problem for some time now and everyone seems stumped. (Incidentally I know very little about computers). I'm runnin Windows XP and I have SP2. The problems is that I have an intermittent internet connection. At random intervals (getting shorter all the time), the internet 'disconnects' although when I look at the status it maintains that it is still connected. The only way to reconnect is to restart the computer, it alos causes other programmes to crash or hang and I can't even turn the thing off properly. Is this making sense. I've harangued BT (my ISP) about it but they haven't come up with anything. I've also run Norton Anti-virus, Adaware, Spybot and stuff like that and they don't seem to find anyting. I'm using the XP firewall too.

The event log shows the following problems that occur a lot:

Time Provider NtpClient: An error occurred during DNS lookup of the manually configured peer 'time.windows.com,0x1'. NtpClient will try the DNS lookup again in 30 minutes. The error was: A socket operation was attempted to an unreachable host. (0x80072751)

The SecuROM User Access Service (V7) service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified.

The Application Management service terminated with the following error: The specified module could not be found.

Hanging application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, hang module hungapp, version 0.0.0.0, hang address 0x00000000

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module browseui.dll, version 6.0.2900.2668, fault address 0x0000a27a.

I also get messages about 'fault buckets' whatever they are.

As you can see, I'm confused and a little overwhelmed, can anyone help???

Well I don't really know what a router is, but I'm pretty sure I'm not. No.
