Memory Query

Hi,

I currently have 2x512Mb DDR400 (PC3200) Memory Chips, running in Dual Channel on an Abit IC7 Mobo.

I want to upgrade my memory as I have upgraded everything else, but i have a question.

I'm looking at good quality memory this time, Corsair or Crucial (Ballistix).

My query is this, as my current memory, despite being a decent amount and in Dual-Channel, is cheapo memory, so, CAS timings and stuff will be rubbish, is there any point me adding QUALITY memory like Crucial, to make a 2Gig machine, or will the memory bus simply be slowed down by the cheap memory.

Am i better off just adding more cheapo memory to make 2Gig, or removing the cheapo memory, and replacing it with 1gig of Crucial memory.

Any opinions?

You get what you pay for. With cheapo brands it can be tough to get proper dual-channel setups because of the necessary requirements of it all. With a good brand like Crucial you'll pay more but truly appreciate it.

besides the quality, i heard and read from people say that they have stability problems when it comes to mixing brands.

I've never run into that myself, but I have heard the tales. I'm currently running two EXACT match sticks and my stability is awesome.
