Blue Screen/Crashing/Program errors

Okay so I've been having this problem for atleast a year now, my computer Shuts down and I get a Blue Screen which tells me something like a problem was encountered and the computer had to shut down (up until a few days ago the computer was resetting, but I went My Computer > Properties > Advanced > Startup and Recovery settings > and unticked Automatically Restart) it also crashes, but not so much as I get the Blue Screen.

It's quite random too. It seems to happen more when I'm doing something like listening to music, playing a game, etc. But it's basically random, I could turn my computer on, look at my Desktop for 2 minutes and it could happen. I could be playing a game for an hour, and then it would happen.

I also get programs just randomly encounter errors and close down alot too. Such as MSN messenger, Windows Media Player, computer games.

I've formatted it countless times, and a few of those times I've tried booting it back up with a different XP disc, or using ME instead, but none of that works.

I took it to the place that I brought it from, and when I got it back the guy said he left it on over night, and it didn't seem to have any problems, but at this time I hadn't unticked Automatically Restart, so it could've done it 50 times and he wouldn't know any better. But anyway, he suggested it was the Modem my broadband company supplied's fault, so I let people use my computer at their houses, and the same problem occured. I also used another computer at my house, and it ran fine.

So, recently I was on the phone to one of the people who works where I bought my PC, and I told him what was happening, and he said to me that 9/10 it's because of faulty RAM. Yesterday I bought some new RAM, but the problem persists.

So, I'm not an expert but my guess is faulty Hardware. But I really don't know anything about Computers so any help from you guys would be appreciated.

Look at the Blue Screen what does it say on the bottom.. if it lists a DLL file then it's most likely a program causing the problem.. uninstall or reinstall it.

If there is no DLL it could be a bad memory module. Just happened to me! I am a computer technician, so I was troubleshooting everything. I reformatted and found it was a bad memory chip. I have a 512 and a 256 in there.. I removed the 256 and my system works 100% now.

So, if you have two chips try to remove one.. reboot and when BIOS says your memory has changed accept it. Run your system for a bit and see if things are fine. If they aren't fine.. remove the memory chip and put the other one in. See if that one works.

If neither of them work go buy some memory from Best Buy or CompUSA and ask their return policy. Should be 30 days even with it opened. You can try it out and if it's not the problem return it.
