Looking for help

I sold my sis in law my dell computer a few months ago. She is really lazy and has never set it up. The other day I offered to set it up for her. It worked fine when I sold it to her... only about a year and a half old. When I plugged the monitor in to the hard drive there was no picture. I know the monitor works because when you unplug it from the hard drive it says no connection, but the second you plug it into the hard drive the screen goes black. The hard drive powers up fine. I also tried her other monitor with the dell hard drive and it did the same thing as the dell monitor. Both monitors work fine with her other drive.
Like I said, this computer was fine when I sold it to her. I checked all cable connections and they appear to be secure. Is there something I could be overlooking? Can anyone offer some help as to what this problem might be?

Thanks...

You have me a bit confused. So, you are saying you took the hard drive out of the other computer and tried to boot from it? Or, wait, are you calling a PC a hard drive? Anyways, sounds like a video card problem. Don't suppose you can swap a video card out from the other computer for troubleshooting purposes?

i think fredda is calling the pc a harddrive. ive heard other people call a pc a harddrive before but its ok.

as for you problem fredda, if you have the dell manual with you check to see where the cmos jumper is located and clear the cmos. afterwards turn on the computer again and see if that helps.
