dead scanner
My hp 4400c scanner is not recognized by my hp pavilion 514n anymore,a balloon opens and says it has malfuctioned and needs to be replaced,the scanner is 3 years old and has had moderate use.I did a reboot one day and could not shut the scanner power off and could not be used again,don't know what to do and cannot afford a new scanner as of yet.Maddbob

I was getting this error on a USB bus-powered scanner. It turned out that the USB plug was not fully connecting on the motherboard header inside the PC, and apparently the power was intermittant.
The HP 4400C is probably not bus-powered but check your power supply. What did you mean by, "could not shut the scanner power off?" - The Inspector |
