2complex PC questions...PLZ help... (re: audio & video)
Right!
I hope someone can help me :) cos it's starting to make me crazy. I recently bought a new desktop computer etc. Now, I have 2 "problems": 1. Recording audio Normally, I do it this way: I turn on Cool Edit Pro, and start recording... while my minidisc program is playing what I recorded (that's what I do with bootlegs)... so basically, I'm recording what sound is being played on my computer.. with the new pc, I haven't mangaged to do that.. normally I fiddle around with the sound-settings.. but this time, the most sound I get is this: download clip I have no idea why it's not working, maybe cos the sound is coming via my speakers now? I have no idea... image: ![]() **note that normally when you're recording it gives these wave things on the screen, but as you can see, it's as dead as anything. ------------------------------------------------------------ 2. Editing Videos I have this standard software: windvd creator.. when I have a .vob or so, and cut a piece of it and then play it (or save it), when the video plays, the sound does not match the image like it should... I have no idea what to do, I have tried out everything.. and can never get it to work.. Please if someone could help me, I'd be very greatful! I asked many ppl, but nobody really knows what to do... Thanks for reading & thanks in advance for helping. B. xxx |

Go into your windows volume settings by either accessing them through the control panel or double clicking the speaker icon in your taskbar. Do the following: Click Options > Properties > Check the Recording box > Click OK at the bottom > Check the box for "What U Hear" mode (or something simlarly named, as I think what u hear is only used on Creative soundcards).
As for your video program, I don't know about that, but someone else may be able to help you. If there are any problems in the steps listed above, then you either don't have that kind of option to record directly from your soundcard, or you are just doing something wrong. Either way, post back.

Hi Hybridboy,
2 Editing Videos Check this link for your WinDVD audio sync problem http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=59487 It's not exactly the same as yours but it might give you some ideas, or just google windvd +"out of sync" 1 Recording Audio Hopefully I can be of more help with Cool Edit but I haven't used it for a while. I might have to reinstall it. How are you recording from minidisc? Is it linked to your soundcard's line-in? Check the Volume Control (yellow speaker icon in the system tray) *Line-In* settings in Options > Properties > Recording and tick the Select box. In Cool Edit make sure you're recording at 44.1KHz, 16 bit in stereo. Click the Record button and start playing the minidisc. You should see the VU monitor at the bottom of the screen start to move. Set the recording level so that it's just going into the red section, but not too much or you'll get clipping/distortion. If I remember right, you won't see the wave pattern until you finish recording. Post back if you need any more help... I'm a bit out of practice but I'll have a go ;-) btw, you're not trying to record from WinAmp, are you?

thanks very much for your time ppl :) I really appreciate it.
Now, regarding the audio. I explained myself wrongly. I meant, for example the minidisc, I also mean when I want to record any sound that is being played on my pc, like a live radio stream for example.. I hear everything perfect out the speakers from my screen, but when I record, I can't hear anything. I have tried those things with the recording panel... but nothing also, I have so many options at the recording panel, that I'm confused: ![]() I dunno if it would help, but I'm using a HP Pavilion Desktop PC w5080 attached to the HP vs19 flatscreen, which has the speakers built in.. thanks again for your time ![]() |

Your volume controls look ok. There should be an option in Cool Edit to choose the recording source.
If you want to record sounds from your PC then Cool Edit probably isn't the best choice, it's more for editing the sounds once you've recorded them. Try an audio recorder like MP3 Recorder www.hitsquad.com/smm/programs/MP3RecorderGT More free/shareware links here www.hitsquad.com/smm/win95/AUDIO_VIDEO_CAPTURE They record the sound you hear through your speakers to MP3 or WAV. Then you can edit them in Cool Edit if you need to adjust the sound quality or filter out any noise/hiss.
