ActiveX is an Internet and Web technology developed by Microsoft. it allows for scripts and small programs to be run from within websites. It's what powers Windows Update and many other Web-based utilities.

If you are running a non-ancient version of Internet Explorer on a Windows PC, then you have it. If something is saying that you need ActiveX, then either you are using a different browser, running a non-PC, or have ActiveX disabled (a good idea in my opinion).

Yep, ActiveX is not only a MS-only scripting tool, it is pretty much the method used to get spyware onto your computer.
