Hi I just wondered if anybody else has come across this.
Every now and then there seems to be an error of some sort and a sound plays constaintly in the back ground. It sounds almost like a siren. You get a small pause between each tone. The only way to stop it is to restart your computer ? Not sure whats causing this, thought it might be a virus protection programme highlighting a problem but cant find the source. Please can anybody help. Thanks :

The sound is coming from the speakers.
The keyboard should be ok, its new gamers saitek keyboard. I havent always had this noise, its just been in the last month. I did have a trojan, or worm that a tech sorted out for me on here,Im not sure if the problem has accured after the trojan was taken off, or just a coinsident. But the noise is as I said like a siren. Strange. It does seem to happen though if something out of the usual happens via the computer. Eg : I went into my start up and cancelled two programmes running that didnt need to be running and it started, another time I was using roxio to make a dvd copy of my dv film in my video camera, couldnt seem to burn to the right burner eg: E drive, and then it started again.... Just dont know. Any ideas, not come across this with anybody elses computer. Thanks.

What kind of error do you get? Have a look at your Sound Events in Control Panel > Sounds & Multimedia
This post deals with a similar problem www.techsupportforum.com/showthread.php?t=56581

I have a 5.1 sound blaster card. so I guess its a pci card.
I use broadband, I think I have a fast ethernet connection. Scans well only virus and adware,oh and computer full scan for errors. I will have to look into the device manager as I dont know what you mean by clean, I just know you dont mean get the polish out. Oh I think I have only one thing in my pci slot and that is the sound card, sorry and a fire wire card, I think thats what it is called ( for transferring images from my video camera) Went into device manager and found something called options then disk cleanup, then it says to permanently delete this file press delete, not sure what im deleting so I havent. Get back to you soon thanks. ![]() Oh lastely my computer is connected to a hub also connected is a xbox and then they go through a modem, like i say it has been working fine for months, and it hasnt accured in the last two days,???? its strange, and then low and behold it will accure again. thanks Last edited by Terry Seyforth; 06-13-2005 at 12:07 PM. |

That sounds is normally the BIOS telling you it's either overheating, or a fan has failed. Have you checked those things?

sorry I am answering a few replies here I hope you dont mind.
No I havent checked my fan etc. I shall do that, I gather you go into the bios settings and check there. I shall have a look. Thanks. I have two fans on the housing and one on the cpu and one on the power supply and one on my x800 graphics card. I have been having some trouble with my LG dvd burner, It made hell of a noise the other day when trying to burn something, like the cogs were all grinding,( so I got the warrenty out and I was also prepared to take it apart and have a look , but didnt ,and its been fine for the last week ??)( I dont know if that has any relavance but since the burner hasnt made any noise neither has the siren ?? it couldnt be the computer telling me there is a problem ?? to easy I suppose ) I have downloaded some adware programmes but not pc doctor. I have got Microsoft anti spyware + The Cleaner, these are my latest. I already had Spybot search and destroy + Registry mechanic +avast anti virus + ad-aware se personal + spy blaster. As you can see I try not to take any chances, But still I got a worm ( my fault of course, limewire programme) Hi yes there is a yellow exclamation mark on the port (standard games port) Windows cannot determine the settings for this device. Consult the documentation that came with this device and use the Resource tab to set the configuration. (Code 34) Click Troubleshoot to start the troubleshooter for this device. (Sounds a bit thick but where abouts is the standard game port.) I shall have a look today to see if any cards are next to each other. I dont think they are because I installed them and cant remember them touching in any way.

I have wrote a few things down from my bios.
Can you tell me if ok, as some are disabled and not sure what should and shouldnt. All fans seem to be working ok. Start with: Power: Suspend to ram (S3) = Disabled Repost Video on S3 Resume = Disabled restore on ac/power loss = Power Off Ring-in power on = Disabled Pci Devises power on = Disabled PS/2 keyboard power on =Disabled Over Vcore Voltage = Disabled On board game port = Disabled Rtc alarm date = Everyday Cpu temp 54 c m/b temp 35 c cpu fan spead 2931 rpm v core 1.654 +3.30v 3.307v +5.00v 4.835 +12.00v 12.387 All these figures might not mean anything, but just hoping someone will notice an error or setting that is wrong. Avast : I know now where to locate sound for avast so if it happens again I will mute icon and see if it stops. There are many ideas I shall try each in turn to solve problems. I thank you all for your help and hope I resolve the matter. Thanks again.

Cpu 54 c thats the (temperature) I thought you may be able to tell if the fan had stopped by the temperature, If fan stopped temperature would be higher. I could do this my self but not sure what temperature the cpu should be. I think this is ok though.

hot chip ??
Hi I took the cover off my computer today, and all fans working fine, there is two spaces clear between the graphics card and the sound blaster card, so i dont think there is any conflict there.
Started computer today no sound, but restarted and got it the second time, must have been a glitch. Just to let you know the sound hasnt happened in a week now ?? So I dont know if we should continue, it isnt resolved, but its like when you call a plumber or take your car in because its making a noise, and yes when you take it in it stops, I know what will happen I will close this thread and the bugger will start again. anyways I will give you my computer spec just incase. |
