problem in display properties/customize icons

I had to take the tower in to be fixed just recently. Well I just got back into making my own desktop themes. Everytime I change a theme the icons are all bunched up together. So I took a look in the display section. Where you can change the look of the icons "my documents icon etc." The place I took the tower to some how made the icons be all together. Because when I looked in "Display" they were all bunched next door to each other. Instead of having spaces between them. Can I fix the problem by doing something in the display section? Do I have to go somewhere else in the computer to fix it? Mary

Display control panel, appearance, advanced button, where it says item;desktop, switch it to icon spacing horz and vert. Adjust these and hit apply and ok. If you are not set to autoarrange on the desktop, you may need to choose arrange icons by name.

I went did what you said. I took a look at where in the desk it has customize desktop. It has the Web tab the box for "lock desktop items wasn't checked. So I checked it. But the computer likes to keep the vertical and horizontal. Where it wants it. I'd put it at say 10 come back and the computer has it at 63,and 45. How do I get it to stay at my settings all the time. Do I unchecked the lock the desktop items box. then go do everything and come back and recheck it. then click apply and ok.

Unless you are using a web page as you desktop, the lock box should not matter. If you spacing will not stay where you set it, there is more to this problem. Try scanning for spyware using Spybot and Ad-aware. You may also want to do an online virus scan.
