Load Fan

Hello! How can I tell what is causing my computer to be so noisy? I got some good quiet fans but it’s still the same. I also changed the Power supply to a better one and quiet too. The only thing I haven’t changed is the CPU fan. Could that fan so loud?

Thanks!!

Sure it could be. Just unplug all your case fans one by one or all at once to see if the main noise maker is suddenly silent - if not its your CPU fan. That one you shouldnt unplug because it only takes seconds for a CPU to overheat.

If its the CPU fan you could try this...
Unplug computer from the wall and then unplug the cpu fan from the motherboard. Take some compressed air and blow it into the cpu fan to clean out the dust. When you are satisfied you have cleaned out the dust, PLUG THE CPU FAN BACK IN, and plug the computer into the wall again. Now see if the noise is still there. If it is, it could just be a generally noisy fan. Newegg.com has some fairly cheap and quiet fans if you want to buy a new one.

Had an old Dell tower with a boxed CPU fan (vertical processor), the loudest machine I have ever heard. Sounded like a really bad hard drive wine.

Luckily this machine has moved on!

Definitely, it’s the CPU. It's been doing that since I built my computer. I changed the Power Supply for a fancy one thinking that that was going to make the difference… I'll checkout Newegg.com for a quiet fan. Any suggestions would be appreciated. How about water cooling system? Thanks a lot!

Zalman makes some nice cooling systems. One tip is to get fans that are LARGE. The needn't run as fast and have such power that they also cool the surrounding components. As always, make sure to shutdown regularly and get the inside with compressed air or an electronics vacuum.

Great!!! I looked at their website and they have really nice fans. I noticed they have to be compatible with the motherboard. I have an ASUS P4GE-V, but they have different references for ASUS motherboards. What do you think?

Thank you.
