Keep having to reformat computer...every 2 weeks.
Hello,I recently bought a new Northgate PC and everything went for a week.Usually something small triggers the entire computer to crash.I can restart the computer with the restart button and the compute reboots, however important drivers are missing causing me to have to have to reformat.I can turn off my computer and wake up in the morning and get a blue screen of a error and usually I cant reformat from the CD on the same day the crash happens.I have to wait until morning to do so.What is the problem?I'll appreciate any help. Thanks!

My 1st suspect is your hard drive. Download the diag from the manufactror of your hard drive (maxtor,seagate....) and run it.
If it test ok I would download a memory test like memtest. If this is also not the problem, we will pick up here.

BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death), this hurts and is hard to track down.
Not sure what type of machine you have, desktop or laptop?? These can be tricky, more often a code problem (software/firmware/BIOS) than a hardware problem. But it is hard to tell. Could be power supply, ESD (Electro Static Discharge) or cooling problem as well. I would start with the OS, make sure it is up to date. Go over all the drivers for the machine and make sure they are up to date as well. Hopefully Northgate used someone elses MOBO that is still in business that you can get support for. The problem may also related to the sleep/hibernate mode as well. These usually require a BOIS fix to get sorted, however, you might be able to turn off this feature to see if the machine becomes more stable? Good luck, I think you will need it! JamesO |
