How much is my computer worth?

I know very little about computers. What I do know is that my laptop is too heavy to be lugging around everywhere I go. Want to sell it and get a better one. Does anyone have an idea of how much this old one is worth?

Dell Inspiron 8200, Pent 4, 1.5Gz, 15" Super XGA+
512MG RAM
32MB video
30GB hard drive
Built-in floppy drive
Built-in network card & modem
16x CD/DVD drive (only burns CDs, not DVDs)
2 USB ports (not high-speed)
Windows XP Pro
Carrying case
Netgear external wireless card (not original to computer)
Firewire adapter card (has 3 Firewire ports)

Thanks!

Also, any opinions re: a good new laptop buy that is very portable but can do everything and is around $1500 or not too much more? I'm still in grad school unfortunately and don't have much to spend.

Thanks!

If it were me I would go to Half.com and ebay.com and see what people are paying for them. There are other sites of this type also.
