Grey Email
I have a problem retrieving and/or sending email. Have Windows XP Home via Comcast and have my email filtered through MailWasher Pro. IncrediMail is my email client. The problem started this morning when I decided to do a Leak Test at Gibson Researh. I downloaded Leak Test to desktop tried to run it and Norton came up and warned of a Trojan Alert immediately. Then WinPatrol popped up a box something about WIN.INI...can't recall all it said. I just closed it all and forgot it. Upon checking and incoming email I received just shortly after that, I hit "Mail Program" which opens up IncrediMail. I tried to open the message but when I did, the entire body of the message was light grey...no text, no nothing. I have the buttons at the top of the message...Previous, Next, Reply, , Forward, Delete, etc. but from there on down is grey. Any and all messages already received show the same thing.
I tried rebooting but, to no avail. I tried system restore and that didn't help. Any ideas where to go from here? I can't email IncrediMail with the problem needless to say. I just found out IE won't work now as well.. I use Firefox but tried to open a window in IE and all I got was the familar, "IE has encounterd a problem and needs to close". What's going on? I've already run Spybot, AdAware, SpySweeper, Trojan Hunter, Spyware Blaster, CWS Shredder etc. none of them turned up anything. When something like this happens, that's the first thing I do out of habit, but nothing this time.

Nothing was found...don't know where to go with this now...any suggestions? No spyware, no viruses, no trojans. Something's not right. Why them boxes keep popping up when I try to access programs on my desktop is another oddity. I've already ran into several (including IE and CWShredder) that say the same thing about"......has encountered a problem and needs to close." Can't even do a live update with Norton because I get the same box.

Wish I could...don't have access to the link they gave me because it's in an email that I can't get to. I have thier Premium version and that's not available on the Internet...only the regular freebee.
As for Norton, can't get into that either Each time I've tried a box comes up and says, "Symantec Integrator has encountered a problem and needs to close." I'm getting this on several programs as well. Last edited by Col Colt; 05-15-2005 at 05:56 PM. |

This is getting worse all the time. I suggest an online virus scan. I do not like it when the antivirus program stops working correctly.
Try www.antivirus.com Put a check in autoclean.

I just took this machine all the way back to last Monday in System Restore...no change. I'm about ready to take it out back and use my hog leg on it!!! I ran House Call and they came up with nothing and some other program someone suggested. After I did the system restore a few minutes ago, I noticed now the anti virus in the system tray has a red X over it.I clicked on it to endable and it doesn't work.I'll run that test but I'm skeptical of anything working now. It just seems to get wose...about ready to through this *^&$$%^&*(@@# thing out the door!!

dai...Went int run>sfc /scannow and hit enter but, a message came up to insert Windows XP Pro into CD and I don't have XP Pro, just the home version. I've never tried to undo a System Restore...just let it be whether it worked or not before. I didn't know you could do that. At any rate, I just tried to close out those info boxes but they wouldn't let me so, I had to end up rebooting to get rid of them.

www.pandasoftware.com is also a good online free virus checker. You can try that one. Left hand side, down towards the bottom there will be a small icon to scan for free online. I have another program that fixes errors like that in IE, though my friend gave it to me off his pendrive, so I don't know a link to download it from. I will upload it to my website as soon as possible and send a link.

Ralck...that would be great. So far I've exhausted the answer to these problems. I've even went so far as to uninstall/reinstall NIS to no avail. Now it's worse that ever. Tried twice but having more trouble with it that I did when I first got it several years back. It is no longer on this machine. Got tired of fooling with it and downloaded Zone Alarm and Avast. Nevertheless, all was for naught because I still have the blank email and them stupid boxes that say,".....has encountered an error and needs to close." on several differnt programs just like before I got rid of Norton. Obviously, they weren't to blame. I have a-squared that I've done scans with as well as HouseCall and Avast. I'm convinced all this is not spyware related or by a virus or trojan...just don't know what.

Ok... Having a bit of trouble with my website so I'll post that prog here.
I had to run it on my computer once- fixed everything perfectly and had to run it on a friend's comp once-it seemed to fix most of the problems at least on her comp. This is the first time I've done attachments on this forum, so lets hope this works. |
