Weird computer 'lag'
Hi,
I recently got a new computer and up till now it has been running nice and smoothly. What happens is every now and then, what ever i'm doing, the computer for less then a second 'locks up' and then goes back to normal. This may sound like nothing but when it happens more then 5 times during a game it can get a bit worrying. Does anyone know where the problem boils down too? The computer is about a month old, no viruses, no spyware on it just the odd couple of games. It's really puzzling me. Thanks for any help. |

Maybe you could post some more specifications on the PC ? CPU, RAM, motherboard, power supply - everything as detailed as possible.
Where and when exactly do you experience these issues (which games, is it games onloy etc). I am wondering - maybe something is overheating. Have you checked your PCs voltages and temps with a program like speedfan or MBM5 yet ?

Hi, thanks for the reply. Sorry I should have posted the specs here they are:
1.8GHz Athlon 64 3200+ Gigabyte GA-K8NF-9 nForce4 Skt 939 Caviar 80GB SATA150 2MB 7200rpm - Windows XP Home Edition (SP2) GeForce 6600 128MB PCI-E 2x 256mb Corsair Memory 184pin DDR DIMM Q-TEC PSU 400WP To answer your other question it does occur when i'm not playing games. Although I notice it more when playing Call Of Duty. I haven't heard of speedfan or MBM5, I shall check these to out. It might be best for me to mention that this was my first PC build so I could have made a mistake somewhere. To give you more info on any over heating issues I used a silver compound thermal paste for the processor. I hope this gives you enough info and thanks for the help. |

Yes run a temperature and voltage monitoring program - and see if there appears to be a voltage drop or spikes of any kind around the time the freezes happen.
I also wonder - how do you access the internet. Its not verizon DSL by any chance is it ?
