First of all: Hello everyone.
Second, and my reason for posting: My monitor (Auriga 17NF CRT) has a blurriness problem. It's clear on the edges, but down the middle things get fuzzy. I've tried to reproduce the effect (hard when the screen is already blurry) in Corel for you to look at: http://mercury.walagata.com/w/nemglan/monitorprob.png (340 Kb) It might not be quite that bad, but you'll get the idea. It happens on all resolutions and refresh rates to varying degrees - the higher resolutions are more obvious. Anyway, I was hoping someone could tell me what was wrong with it, or even better; how to fix it. Thanks. |

I would probably get a different monitor since 17" CRT are pretty much dime a dozen these days. You can get good quality off lease, name brand units for as little as $20.00

Sure, I've already started the hunt for a decent second-hand monitor, but I'd still like to know what's wrong with this one.
Haven't spotted anything on par with my current monitor (when it was clear) second-hand. I was surprised myself at the lack, I had thought I would be able to pick something up almost instantly. |

It could be from one of the guns in the back of the CRT not being aligned. Posibly from being jarred arround. Sometimes there are controls on the back that you can adjust. But not hardly anymore.

Not wanting to seem as though I have any idea what I'm talking about, but wouldn't a misalignment of the electron guns result in a [coloured] blur across the whole screen?
It's the main thing that's throwing me, why it should be blurred (and the blurring is entirely vertical I've noticed) down the middle of the screen, but not on the sides. Alas, no controls on the back to fiddle with. |

Its pretty much a focusing problem in the middle of the screen. Older TV sets had controls to set the focus on different sections of the screen. You may be able to take it to a repair shop to have it adjusted but that may out weigh the cost of a replacement. |

As for my monitor, it just turns out to be about $50.00 (AUD) for general repairs and $70.00 for a good second-hand 17", so I guess I'll be getting it fixed after all. Which leads to another question: Is this kind of problem likely to reoccur three months down the track, or is it a kind of one-time-fixer deal? I'd hate to end up having it repaired only for the focus to slip out again later on. I really appreciate your help here, by the way. Thanks. |

Look it may be to late but as i read this forum about the Auriga 17NF and its blurryness problem after about 3 hours after getting the monitor i ripped it apart and manualy ajusted the focus witch is at the back section to the left and is labeled not so clearly "Focus" just use a phillips head screw driver and adust it. it is digital so you need to turn it a little to focus it and can be tricky.
Monitor must be on when ajusting and can be dangrous Load up some fine print text in notepad or a text editior and paste some text into it and focus the monitor to the point it becomes easy to read. Well if you are not gaim enough to poen it up atlease you can inform the tech ro a friend how to fix it to save any hassles. worked for me Cheers |

Yes indeed. After paying my pittance (it was about $12 AUD in the end, if I remember correctly), the tech told me that's exactly what he did. Been working great since, and I haven't electrocuted myself.
